Each of your teeth has a hollow space inside it, which includes a pulp chamber &amp; root canals. These interior chambers are filled with tooth pulp, which consists of connective tissues, nerves &amp; blood vessels that nourished your tooth from the inside during development. Your dentist will perform a&nbsp;root canal&nbsp;procedure when the pulp becomes compromised.

Whether a dentist holds a DMD or a DDS degree, they have received all of the same training. The only difference is that some universities choose to call their dental degree DDS &amp; some choose DMD.
So, for example, if Dr. John Smith received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania &amp; Dr. Jane Doe earned here DDS from UCLA, both doctors received the same level of clinical training.
You will sometimes see even more letters after some dentists&rsquo; names, such as FICOI or MAGD. These don&rsquo;t represent university degrees, but actually indicate a level of additional training that a dentist has received beyond dental school. Often called a bite plate or a splint, this appliance will keep your upper teeth from grinding against your lower teeth. In addition to alleviating TMJ symptoms, this bite guard will prevent wear on your teeth from grinding that can lead to other problems.
